Impact of E-governance programmes toward improving productivity in the Nigerian public sector

Abstract
In the recent times, governments all over the world have adopted the use Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to improve the quality of administration especially in the public sector. This is in line with the general advocacy to reform the public sector to serve the citizens better and to enhance public sector productivity. Thus, a combination of e-governance factors with democratic ideas will make governments more effective. In addition, it can promote cordial relationship with the citizens in order to achieve national development. This paper will explore the emerging role of e-governance in promoting service delivery in the Nigerian public sector. It will also take a cursory look at the methodologies for using ICTs to improve the quality of service delivery in the public sector. The result of the first test indicates that e-governance has significant impact on productivity in the local government council. The second test shows that e-governance practices are not highly effective in the local government council. The outcome of the findings might be attributed to the challenges of e-governance in Nigeria. government should enhance the infrastructural capacity of the public sector especially local government council to support its services. On a final note, it necessary to institute a work culture that is responsive to change.
