Factors affecting Banks’ selection by depositors: A Study in Bangladesh

Abstract
The main objective of this study is to
determine the factors affecting the choices of depositors in selecting banks
for their deposits in Bangladesh. The study surveyed 300 respondents which are
selected from the sample commercial banks. The survey took place in Dhaka and
Kushtia cities. The result of the study has been assessed based on the likert
scale of 5 points, where, 1 for Strongly Agree, 2 for Agree, 3 for Neutral, 4
for Disagree, and 5 for Strongly Disagree. The results of the study unearth
that the safety of funds, secured transaction process, online banking
facilities, and prompt service have significant positive influence, whereas
political instability, high inflation rate, and high transaction costs have
significant negative influence on the choice of depositors to select their
desired banks in Bangladesh. The result of the study will surely be useful to
policy makers and supervisory authorities of banks to formulate their policies
so as to improve the performance of banks in Bangladesh.
