Abstract
The sugar industry in Bihar plays a significant role in the state's
economy and has been a major source of employment for its residents. However,
with changing labour laws and policies, there have been concerns about their
impact on industrial relations within this sector. This study aims to assess
the influence of labour laws on the working environment and relationships
between employers and employees in the sugar industry in Bihar. The research
methodology includes both quantitative and qualitative approaches, involving
surveys, interviews with key stakeholders such as workers, management
representatives, trade unions, government officials, and analysis of legal
documents related to labour laws. The findings reveal that several crucial
factors affect industrial relations in the sugar industry; including minimum
wage regulations, contract labour practices, and social security benefits
provided by employers to workers. Furthermore, the study emphasizes how these
aspects are interconnected with worker productivity levels and job satisfaction
among employees. It also highlights various challenges faced by both parties
concerning compliance with existing labour legislations.
