Abstract
Microfinance has emerged as a vital tool in the fight against poverty
in developing countries. In recent years, there has been an increasing emphasis
on using microfinance to alleviate poverty and promote economic development.
However, its impact on poverty reduction is still debatable. This study aims to
assess the effectiveness of microfinance interventions in North Bihar, one of
the poorest regions in India. The state of Bihar has long been plagued by high
levels of poverty and unemployment, with a large population living below the
poverty line. The government's efforts to alleviate poverty have not yielded
significant results due to various factors such as corruption, lack of
infrastructure, and limited access to financial services. This has led many
non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and microfinance institutions (MFIs) to
step in with their own initiatives to target the poor and provide them with
financial support. This research will use both qualitative and quantitative
methods to collect data from rural households that have availed microfinance
loans from different MFIs operating in North Bihar.
